Workflow Engineering: Automating the Handoffs That Slow You Down

Ask any team how long their part of a process takes and you'll hear a confident, small number. An hour to review. A day to approve. Twenty minutes to set up the account. Then ask the customer how long the whole thing took and you'll hear three weeks — and nobody can explain the difference, because the difference doesn't live inside any team. It lives between them: in the inbox where the request sat unnoticed, in the spreadsheet re-keyed into the next system, in the approval that waited for someone's return from vacation, in the four status-check emails that themselves became work.

And when leadership asks what automation returned this year, the answer is cycle-time numbers on named flows, not a count of bots.
